Lakeport enforcing its tobacco retailer licensing law

Lakeport is taking the next step in enforcing its tobacco retailer licensing law. The City Council voted unanimously to approve an agreement letting Lake County handle inspections and compliance checks for the ordinance. Officials say the goal is to improve enforcement of tobacco laws, including California’s ban on flavored tobacco products. County health leaders say the program will focus on education first, with penalties only used if businesses repeatedly violate the rules.
