A former fire lookout tower near Willits is getting a new role in wildfire detection. The Ridgewood Fire Safe Council plans to install two fire cameras at the old Two Rock Lookout, which sits on a ridge with sweeping views across Mendocino County. The tower was built in 1966 and closed in the 1990s when human lookouts were phased out. Now the site will use modern cameras and automated monitoring to help spot fires quickly and alert Cal Fire dispatchers.
