If you notice a low-flying yellow plane over parts of Clear Lake next week, it is part of a mosquito control effort. The Lake County Vector Control District will begin aerial treatments Monday, March 2, after heavy rains created prime breeding grounds for aggressive floodwater mosquitoes. Crews will apply a biological larvicide that targets mosquito larvae but is considered safe for people, pets, and the environment. The work will focus on marshy areas around the lake, with more targeted drone applications later in the week, depending on weather conditions.
