Another stretch of Highway 1 is still shut down south of Elk after pounding rain sent mud and debris across the roadway. The closure runs from 8000 to 10000 Highway 1 and follows an atmospheric river that’s caused problems up and down the county. Crews started clearing the slide Wednesday evening, but officials say it’s still active, which means progress could take time. Caltrans has set aside about $2 million for the cleanup, and with no reopening estimate yet, drivers should check road conditions before heading out.
