What started as a simple brake-light stop turned into a chase, a crash, and a felony arrest in Covelo. Deputies say last Thursday night a driver took off from an attempted traffic stop, speeding and passing cars in the wrong lane before slamming into a tree and running into a field with old cannabis greenhouses. Deputies found him hiding on the ground, and a search of the car turned up a loaded handgun that had been reported stolen. The 26-year-old, already on felony probation with active warrants, is now sitting in the Mendocino County Jail facing multiple gun charges and a no-bail hold as the investigation continues.
