What began as a desperate search along Highway 162 has now ended in tragedy for a Mendocino County family. The California Highway Patrol says the second occupant was found Sunday afternoon about five miles downriver in the Eel River, days after the vehicle went into the water east of Laytonville. Divers had recovered the car Friday, finding one victim inside, while high water and poor visibility slowed the search earlier in the week. Investigators are still working to determine what led to the crash and are asking anyone with information to come forward.
