A tight-knit community in Round Valley is waiting for answers after an elderly couple is believed to have driven into the Eel River near Covelo. The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office says a family member spotted tire tracks off Highway 162 Tuesday and found debris and personal items near a deep swimming hole. Sheriff Matt Kendall says rescue crews were pushed back by strong currents, but more teams are ready as river levels are expected to fall Thursday afternoon. Another storm could raise the river again and delay efforts, leaving the community hoping for calmer water and some clarity.
