A rural service program that was abruptly cut last year is back on the ground in Mendocino County. GrizzlyCorps, run through University of California, Berkeley, had its funding restored after a lawsuit, though fewer fellows are serving this year because of federal budget reductions. In Mendocino County, three fellows are now working on wildfire prevention and environmental projects with local partners. Leaders say even at reduced capacity, the program fills real gaps in rural communities that depend on outside support.
