Big changes are coming to California cardrooms, and operators say the fallout could be severe. Beginning April 1st, they’ll be prohibited from offering blackjack, baccarat and pai gow, a shift they warn could eliminate roughly 13,000 jobs while tribal casinos remain untouched. Some city leaders are also worried about losing a reliable stream of local tax dollars tied to cardroom revenue. The industry insists the state is breaking prior agreements and says it intends to sue, even as cardrooms must submit compliance plans by the end of May.
