A deadly crash along Highway 1 north of Gualala drew a heavy emergency response Monday afternoon. CHP says just after 1 p.m., a vehicle went off the road near Sail Rock and slammed into trees, and an automatic alert from an Apple device tipped off 911 that someone was trapped. Fire crews had to cut into the vehicle to reach the victim, as the roof had reportedly collapsed inward. Investigators later confirmed the crash turned fatal, and they’re still working to determine exactly what happened.
