A shuttered school in Redwood Valley may be headed for a comeback. A local volunteer group wants to lease the old elementary campus from Ukiah Unified and turn it into a recreation center aimed at giving kids healthier options close to home. The property has sat empty since enrollment declines forced its closure more than a decade ago, and past efforts to sell it have fallen short. The proposal goes before the school board Thursday night as supporters argue the center could steer young people toward sports, classes and community instead of trouble.
