Wildlife officials are cracking down on red abalone fishing. The California Department of Fish and Wildlife says a woman has been ticketed for poaching red abalone from Van Damme State Park. And they say she knew it was wrong, with one officer alleging he was watching as the woman and a man were taking purple sea urchins and says he witnessed the woman shoving an abalone down her pants. When confronted, the woman voluntarily produced a second abalone. Recreational red abalone fishing has been closed in California since 2016 due to severe population declines.
