The Center for Biological Diversity is reportedly planning to sue the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife over what they call a “failure” to enact federal protections for a Clear Lake hitch. The hitch, found only in the Clear Lake watershed, has been dwindling in numbers for decades due to development, water management issues, and high levels of  drought. The Record-Bee reports that while last year US DFW proposed adding the hitch to the list of federally threatened species, they never moved forward with enacting it. In a letter to the Secretary of the Interior this week, the Center for Biological Diversity called it “appalling”  to leave the iconic fish in “bureaucratic limbo” and threatened to sue if action is not taken in 60 days.
