Law enforcement officials from Mendocino County and Willits have been named in a federal civil rights lawsuit. According to court documents, the family of Nicholas Bakewell say officers used excessive force, as Bakewell was tased and his air supply was cut off by officers holding him down, following a confrontation on June 5th of last year. Officials with the Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office did not comment on the case; however, the office released the findings of the county coroner last September, which showed that high blood pressure and drug use were contributors to Bakewell’s death.
