An initial court appearance for a man from Kelseyville, accused of killing his wife with a hammer. Travis Bonson was arrested and has been locked up since January 16th after calling the police to tell them that he attacked his wife at their home on Single Spring Drive. Ayano Bonson died four days later, and charges against Travis Bonson were updated to murder. Bonson was arraigned and pleaded not guilty in Lake County Superior Court on Tuesday. The judge set a preliminary hearing and bail review for March 19th. The lead prosecutor, Senior Deputy DA Nicholas Rotow, tells the Lake County News that evidence points to Bonson bludgeoning his wife of 22 years as she slept. Rotow says Bonson is a registered sex offender from 2012, when he was convicted of sex crimes against a child under 14, but has not had any court cases in Lake County since he got out of prison for that crime.
