The City of Ukiah is taking up an ordinance that would clarify its policy about expectations when homes and other uses are allowed near long-standing industrial areas. The so-called “Right to Industry” ordinance is similar to an ordinance already in place in Mendocino County. According to the city, the proposal would support industry and economic development and let people know what to expectwhen property is sold or developed near those industrial areas. Officials say it doesn’t automatically allow industrial development or weaken health, safety, or environmental regulations. The city council will hold a public discussion of the ordinance at its regular meeting on Wednesday evening at 5:15 at City Hall. You can find out more–and see the entire council agenda–on the city website.
