Changes could be coming to the state’s backup home insurance provider. Lawmakers are discussing a bill that would beef up claims staff at the state FAIR plan–and allow it to offer more coverage options. The plan offers fore coverage, but homeowners who want additional coverage need to take out a second policy. Sponsors call the plan a safety net that needs to work better for it’s policy holders. As of December, it covered 688,000 California homes– whose owners aren’t able to get coverage any other way. It is funded by companies that write home policies in the state.
