The biggest geothermal operator in The Geysers has a new owner. Calpine has sold its operations to Constellation Energy for $ 26.8 billion. The deal is one of the biggest ever for a geothermal power producer, and creates a combined company that’s one of the biggest energy producers in the US. The Geysers, which straddles the Lake-Sonoma Line, is the world’s biggest geothermal power complex and annually produces enough energy to power about 750,000 homes. Industry experts say the acquisition positions Constellation as a major player in the field with higher energy demand, fueled by power-hungry data centers across the country.
