Lake County Behavioral Health Services is worried about a state budget change that could see counties pick up the costs of providing mobile health care in a crisis. Mobile Crisis Services are currently covered as a statewide Medi-Cal benefit, but a budget change would have the counties take over that cost. B H S says that shgify would hurt local governments, which are already strapped for cash, and possibly force cuts to a program that provides field based bahvaioral health care and follow-up . Director Elise Jones says Mobile Crisis is one of the most effective tools to respond to crises–and without it, the service could fall back to law enforcement, emergency rooms, and the jail. She and other officials are urging the state to consider leaving funding the way it is.
