Water and sewer rates could be going up in Fort Bragg. The City Council has asked staff to look at restructuring rates to make them fairer. The rates haven’t changed since 2019. The most important possible change for water bills would be to move from the current tiered rate structure that charges for both fixed cost and a per-unit rate. That setup was intended to encourage water conservation. That billing method is outdated and has even been the subject of court cases across the state. While some bills will go down and others will go up under the proposed changes to ensure all users pay based on usage and level the rates per meter. Even if some users will pay more, the city says Fort Bragg Still has lower water rates than many similarly sized municipalities. Sewer rates will also change to the same payment structure for all users. Under the proposal, mobile home and multi-tenant residents could see an increase. A public hearing will take place in March
