Crews have wrapped up fuel reduction work on unmaintained land in Brooktrails as part of a push to reduce wildfire risk ahead of future fire seasons. The Mendocino County Fire Safe Council worked with the California Conservation Corps to clear overgrown vegetation on vacant parcels near homes. Many of the lots are owned by people who live elsewhere and have not maintained their property for decades. A new notice process allowed crews to move forward when owners did not respond. Fire officials say the work improves defensible space and protects the entire neighborhood.
