We are finally nearing the end of the rain, but some of the small streams and the river are still above normal. CHP reports Highway 175 remains closed near Hopland. The good news is that the heavy rain is over, and the river level will drop. There’s no rain in the forecast for the next few days, and temperatures will be around normal to even a bit above normal for this time of year by next week.
However, there is still a threat from waves along the coast. The National Weather Service is out with a beach hazard statement for tomorrow and Thursday. They say sneaker waves could creep up without warning and easily sweep people off the shoreline. It’s a good idea to avoid rocks and jetties and be extra careful near the water–even if it looks calm at the time.
The recent storms have given a boost to the critical mountain snowpack. While we have seen rain, which has filled reservoirs, the mountains have seen a lot of snow, putting the region in a better position to avoid dry conditions this summer.
