Two men have been arrested after Ukiah police say the pair lured a man behind a building and tried to steal a dog–and then slashed the victim with a machete and knife during a fight. Police report that they got a call about a man stabbed with severe injuries on South State Street on Wednesday afternoon. They say surveillance videos from the area showed the victim and two other men behind a building, then showed the victim staggering back into the street and the other two running off –one of them

with a dog. Investigators later identified the two, both from Ukiah. Apparently, the men met the victim to get the dog for a girlfriend. Both are now facing charges, including attempted murder and conspiracy. No word about the victim’s condition, but at the time, the hospital’s trauma department said his wounds were serious and potentially life-threatening. Police say they found the dog, and it is OK.
