A series of powerful winter storms is dramatically improving California’s water outlook. Atmospheric rivers over the past three weeks have sent hundreds of billions of gallons of water into reservoirs statewide. Water managers say major reservoirs are now well above historical averages for this time of year. The storms have also rebuilt much of the Sierra Nevada snowpack, a key source of the state’s water supply. Officials say the recent surge has greatly reduced the likelihood of water shortages this summer.
