We’ll start the New Year with an increased chance of moderate to heavy rain, high mountain snow, and gusty winds on Friday. Rainfall through Saturday afternoon is expected to be around two inches, higher as you go north. A coastal flood watch goes into effect this morning through Saturday afternoon, with Chances for moderate to perhaps locally major coastal flooding increasing –not just because of the weather but also because of seasonal King tides that will push the water higher than usual. Look for up to a foot and a half of seawater on normally dry ground around high tide along the Mendocino coastline this morning and again this afternoon. Bouts of rain and gusty winds are forecast to continue into the weekend and likely next week.
