There is now no way to access a pristine Mendocino Coast beach. The remote area of the northern Mendocino Coast has been cut off as the only road in has been closed by the county. The Mendocino County Department of Transportation announced County Rd. 431 or Usal Road is closed until further notice. They’ve also given no indication if or when the road will be reopened to allow access to the beach or campground. This is the only public route to Usal Beach and Usal Beach Campground. Wildlife you may not see elsewhere, like Elk can sometimes be seen at Usal Beach which is at the southern most edge of the Lost Coast, part of the Mendocino coast known for its dark sand beaches.
