California schools will soon face new requirements aimed at preventing sexual abuse on campus. Starting January first, all K through 12 schools, including private campuses, must begin putting stronger protections in place by July. Those changes include better staff training, tougher reporting standards, and blocking teachers with credible abuse allegations from moving between districts. The law follows a 2020 change that opened the door to hundreds of lawsuits, many tied to decades-old abuse cases with costly payouts.
