After months of uncertainty, rural schools are finally catching a break. Congress has approved a revival of the Secure Rural Schools Act, sending hundreds of millions of dollars to communities that depend on the funding to keep basic services running. California counties alone are expected to receive more than $40 million, easing pressure on districts that were preparing for cuts. Supporters say the money is critical for areas with limited tax bases due to federally owned land. Payments are expected to start within weeks once the bill is signed into law.
