California needs around twelve thousand extra teachers

California’s push to bring transitional kindergarten to every district has created a huge teacher shortage. The state needs around twelve thousand TK teachers, but fewer than five hundred have earned the new credential so far, with only a couple hundred more on the way. Officials say there are several paths to get qualified, but filling that gap won’t be easy.
