Ukiah police are asking parents to step in after getting a wave of complaints about kids riding e-bikes and scooters like they’re invincible. Officers say they’ve seen everything from blown stop signs to kids riding fast at night with no lights, and they’re reminding families that California treats these devices just like regular bikes or even vehicles in some cases. Anyone under 16 can’t ride a Class 2 e-bike on public roads, helmets are required for riders under 18 and kids can be ticketed for unsafe or illegal riding. Police say they’ll be watching known trouble spots and won’t hesitate to write citations if it keeps someone from getting hurt.
