
The California Department of Health has issued an urgent advisory to avoid eating wild mushrooms. Public health officials have reported an outbreak of amatoxin poisoning caused by consuming wild, foraged mushrooms. Amatoxins are highly toxic and can lead to severe liver damage or death. Toxic mushrooms, such as the death cap, can easily be mistaken for the safe and edible type. Symptoms include diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain.
