It may seem like a harmless prank, but area police are warning about a new challenge that could be dangerous. It’s called the Door Kick Challenge–where kids run up to doors, then kick or strike them hard. Around the country, it’s led to damage, criminal charges, and confrontations that have turned violent and even deadly. Police are urging parents to talk to their teens about the real risks and consequences of their actions, which the recipients don’t find funny.
A new date for a popular festival on the banks of the South Fork of the Eel River. Organizers say Reggae on the River will take place August 14th through the 16th at County Line Ranch in Piercy. In addition to the new date, the event has new leadership–with the Mateel Community Center promising the show will go on as it has in the past.

The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers has closed the North Boat Ramp at Lake Mendocino due to lower water levels. The south board ramp is still available.

A woman from Lake County has been convicted of vehicle embezzlement. Jennyfer Hallmark-Duman was convicted in Mendocino County Court of renting the car from Enterprise but never returning it. CHP later found it abandoned in Lake County. The jury reached a verdict in only half an hour.

Some folks in Napa and Sonoma Counties got an alert about an earthquake this morning–but it was a false alarm. The U S G S says it will investigate what the text alerts reported a 5.9 quake near Carson City, Nevada, that never happened.
