The Lake County sheriff’s office is looking for a 14-year-old girl, who they say stabbed another teen. Police have identified Nova Fabisch of Nic as the suspect in the stabbing earlier this week. She is facing assault with a deadly weapon, battery causing serious bodily injury, and attempted murder charges after the young victim reported she was stabbed with a pocket knife during a fight. That girl suffered minor injuries and is expected to fully recover – and police say there is no threat to the public–, alling the case an isolated incident. Normally, the sheriff’s office doesn’t release the names of minors accused of crimes. Investigators tell Lake County News they’re making an exception in this case because of the nature of the crime and because they say they have enough evidence to charge Fabisch as an adult.

Look for another postcard in the mail from Mendocino County with information about the upcoming special redistricting election. The County Registrar of Voters’ office says the first batch of cards that went out last week had no polling locations on them due to a printing mix-up. The printer will pay for the new cards and postage. The actual ballots for the November 4th vote should hit mailboxes any time. Registrar of Voters Katrina Bartolomie has told the county board of supervisors that her office has already been getting lots of calls about the November 4th vote that will determine California congressional district boundaries 2026, which could have implications for which party controls Congress starting in 2027.

High school graduates in California now have an easier path to the California State University System. A bill signed by Governor Newsom will provide automatic admission to those students, without the need for an application or fees. Sponsors of the bill behind the law say it makes higher education the natural next step for California students. They say thousands of California students never even apply — and that the change will help reverse the sharp decline in University system enrollments from in-state.
