CalFire’s Jackson State Forest Advisory group is getting together to talk about a plan for forest management. The group will meet on September 22nd for a workshop on what it calls a “pre-draft” forest management plan. That session is from 1 to 5 at the Saturday Afternoon Clubhouse in Ukiah. The group says it will have that discussion, knowing that the forest land is the unceded traditional territory of local indigenous people–and that good stewardship of that land honors the native past and present.

Cal Fire is reminding pet and livestock owners to include their animals in emergency wildfire planning. They say that planning greatly increases the chance that the animals will survive if a fire breaks out. Among the suggestions are making go-bags specific to each animal, making sure they have an adequate supply of food and medicine on hand, and arranging transportation and shelter options before you get the evaluation order.

State lawmakers have passed a bill that bans federal immigration officers from wearing masks. It’s thought to be the first such state ban in the country, although other states are also considering it. Governor Newsom hasn’t said if he will sign it and has expressed concerns about the constitutionality of a state ordering federal agents to comply. Supporters say masked agents aren’t necessary and only introduce more fear into an already tense situation. Law enforcement agencies oppose the idea. They say masks are important to shield officers’ identities and protect both them and their families from retaliation.
