Governor Newsom has outlined a plan he thinks will save energy users upwards of a billion dollars a year. The proposals he’ll introduce would enable expansion of regional energy markets to lower energy costs, cut air and climate pollution, and avoid power outages. It has the backing of several clean energy, environmental, and labor groups. He says the savings would show up as lower energy bills for millions of Californians.
A chance to learn more about local agriculture is coming up. The biannual Big Valley Small Farms Tour is scheduled for September 13. It includes six small family farms with crops ranging from berries and fruits to olives, saffron, and flowers. Participants will meet the farmers and walk the fields to see up close what goes into running a farm. Organizers say the event highlights both the diversity and sustainability of local farming practices, while fostering connections between growers and the community.
