The Pickett Fire in Napa County is 41 percent contained heading into the weekend. Crews are contending with warmer and drier conditions today as they work in the steep, rugged terrain. The fire started on Sunday and has burned 6,800 acres. The forecast calls for a good chance of gusty winds, especially in Lake and eastern Mendocino Counties, which could result in locally critical fire conditions. More hot weather is expected in interior areas next week
The Army Corps of Engineers is reporting low levels of cyanobacteria in Lake Mendocino. The algae it causes can be harmful, but the corps says the level of bacteria detected is barely detectable. Signs have been posted at water access points. The corps says there is no significant risk to public health, but you should watch for potential symptoms like skin irritation, nausea, vomiting, or diarrhea if you come into contact with the water
Police are looking for the person seen on surveillance cameras breaking into a storage closet at the City Softball Complex and stealing several items. Among them–two tablets that can only be used to download the software that controls the scoreboards on fields 1 and 2. If you have any information about the break-in, the police would like to hear from you.
