Cal Fire says the Lake fire in Clearlake is 75 percent contained–with full containment by the weekend, possibly sooner. The 401-acre fire that broke out Sunday destroyed 6 outbuildings and damaged three other structures, including a private home.

Widespread moderate Heat Risk is forecast Friday through Sunday, primarily for the interior areas with high near or over 100 degrees. Forecasters say breezes in normally dry zones, along with low humidity, may briefly bring elevated fire risk conditions in SE Mendocino and Lake Counties on Saturday. The hotter-than-normal weather is expected to continue early next week.

The Clearlake City Council is discussing whether to continue collecting fire mitigation fees on behalf of the Lake County Fire Protection District. The city has been doing that since 1990. The city now collects the fee as part of the cost of a building it pays to the district. The district would like to collect the assessed fees itself, even though only the city has the legal authority to impose them. Also on the agenda at Thursday’s council meeting –a discussion of a contract with North Bay Animal Services, approving a new agreement with PEG TV, and rejecting all bids for the Austin Skatepark project. The meeting is at 6 PM at City Hall.

California continues a crackdown on illegal cannabis operations. Governor Newsom says the state has seized almost 270,000 pounds of illegal cannabis and eradicated more than 260,000 plants worth around 480 million dollars. Authorities have also arrested 112 people and confiscated around $230,000 in cash. The governor says illegal cannabis threatens the legitimate market, hurting businesses and depriving the state of tax revenue. The enforcement actions were carried out under the guidance of the Office of cannabis control, working with state, local, and federal agencies.
