Work is underway to transform a decrepit former shopping center in Lakeport into an important mixed-use community center. Lake County Tribal Health Consortium is tearing down the old Vista Point Shopping Center to make way for a new development, which will be home to a medical clinic, commercial space, restaurants, and include a bridge over Forbes Creek to connect it to Tribal Health’s 11-acre main campus on Bevins Court. Tribal Health’s chief executive officer, Ernesto Padilla, says the plan will be a huge plus for not just Lakeport but all of Lake County. The site, which was once a thriving shopping center which fell into decay over the years, including one part that had no roof. The city of Lakeport eventually took over the property and sold it, but other plans for the location on Lakeport Boulevard never materialized. Tribal Health bought it in 2024, saying the goal is to create something that will benefit the community for years to come. The work is being done in Pases, with the first part done in about two and a half years. No estimate about the timetable of the next phase.
