Cal Fire says the Bartlett fire in Lake County near the Indian Valley reservoir is at 80 percent containment over 14 acres. There is no threat to property. The fire has been blazing since Sunday afternoon. CalFire expects 100 containment soon and will then move to patrol operations. Meanwhile, the 403-acre Bridge fire in southeast Humboldt County is 30 percent contained. There is a small evacuation warning zone near the community of Alderpoint.
The Mendocino County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue called in to find a couple of cyclists who got lost in the Jackson Demonstration State Forest. Deputies got the call late last night and were able to pinpoint the location deep in the forest. The team, with help from Cal Fire and Fort Bragg FD, found them around 1 this morning. The bikers are fine. Deputies say you should never call law enforcement if you get into trouble in the woods, and make sure someone knows your course before you set out.
Lake County Schools are facing a shortfall of 1.2 million dollars under a freeze in federal education spending. Overall, the state is losing about a billion dollars> School district officials say what they call an impoundment of federal funds will hurt local education. The 1.2 million is about 17 percent of the Lake County School’s federal funding. School Superintendent, Brock Falkenberg. Telling Lake County news that they just found out about the freeze and are trying to evaluate its impact. He’s especially worried about the effect on Adult education programs, after-school programs, and programs for immigrants and non-English speakers. State leaders say the freeze is pure politics and that they intend to fight the decision.
