The city of Cloverdale has cancelled its annual fireworks show after a huge fire and explosion at a fireworks warehouse in Yolo County left seven people unaccounted for and two other people injured. The fire on Tuesday in the community of Esparto, about 35 miles southeast of Clearlake, destroyed the warehouse belonging to a company called –ironically–Devastating Fireworks. That company was the supplier for the annual Cloverdale Lions Club show, as well as the show in St. Helena, which has also called off its plans. The Lions Club calls the explosion a tragic event and expressed support for the small community of Esparto. Other fireworks displays haven’t been affected. Rescuers say it is still too dangerous to get near the site of the blast to search for those missing.
Lots of celebrations ahead for the Fourth and the calendar gives us a BONUS day this year too.. Here is at least SOME of what’s going on. Saturday the FIFTH brings the Redbud Parade in Clearlake at 11, with fireworks at dusk, A street fair and fireworks in Point arena, what’s called the world biggest salmon BBQ during the day and fireworks at night and Fort Bragg, and fireworks on and off the track with racing and a sky show afterward at both the Lakeport and Ukiah Speedways.
