Middletown Days organizers have selected Makaila and Kevin Benjamin as the grand marshals of this year’s parade and rodeo. They own Benjamin Ranches. Makaila Benjamin is a sixth generation rancher and Lake County News says her great-great-grandparents, Les and Irene McIntire, took over the ranch in 1920 from Les’ grandfather, the original owner of the property back in 1890. It’s the fourth largest ranch in Lake County. Middletown Days takes place this weekend beginning on Friday, and with the parade on Sunday.

The Ukiah Valley Fire Authority will be conducting a training burn on the south end of the airport one week from Saturday, starting at 8:30 in the morning. It’s a live-fire exercise that will be controlled and maintained by the Fire Authority. For any questions or concerns regarding the incident, feel free to contact the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority.

Masking policies are being scrutinized across the U.S., including California. State lawmakers are introducing new legislation aimed at making law enforcement officials, including federal agents, provide better identification and not hide their faces with things like masks. The decision follows ongoing protests across the country against the actions of ICE. The bill aims for more transparency and public safety. Lawmakers also say it takes away the idea of what they call secret police. It may face an uphill battle as federal agents, including ICE agents, typically work under federal immigration law not state law.

Today, the Lakeport City Council will discuss a new feasibility study on a utility program that may lower electricity rates, consider measures to address delinquent utility accounts and hold a workshop on next year’s budget. On the agenda, is a presentation from Sonoma Clean Power. They’ll talk about expanding their Community Choice Aggregation program, or the CCA program, into Lake County. Lake County News says the council will also consider adopting the city’s Active Transportation Plan at tonight’s meeting which begins at 6 in the council chambers at Lakeport City Hall.

This Saturday, the U.S. Coast Guard Auxiliary, Flotilla 08-08 of Lake County, in partnership with the Konocti Women’s Service Club, will hold a complimentary life jacket giveaway for children ages 2 through 12 years old. The life jackets come in 2 weigh sizes: 30 to 50 pounds or 50 to 90 pounds. The giveaway starts this Saturday morning at 10 a.m., at the Konocti Bait Shack next to Lucerne Harbor Park and Lake County News say it ends around 2 p.m. or when life jackets run out.

The Fort Bragg Unified School District (FBUSD) is celebrating this evening. Everyone is invited, including staff, board members, and community members to commemorate a new transitional kindergarten (TK) building and upgraded administration building at Redwood Elementary School. The new TK building includes four classrooms, restrooms and a new gated playground and garden area designed specifically for the pre K kids. Mendofever says the ribbon cutting ceremony is tonight at 5p.m.

A historic agreement between the Middletown Rancheria of Pomo Indian and University of California Agriculture and Natural Resources has created the first-ever UC Cooperative Extension Tribal Extension Office. The office which opened its doors on June 2, is located on tribal land at the Middletown Rancheria headquarters. The agreement aims to facilitate culturally informed research and education projects on several different challenges facing local agriculture and natural resources. The Redheaded Blackbelt says collaborations are ongoing between various parties over several issues affecting the environment. Those issues include, but are not limited to farm assessments, sustainable agriculture and vineyard management practices.
