The heat will stay on this evening, but tomorrow shouldn’t be as hot as today was, with a heat advisory in effect until Saturday night. After the heat passes, strong gusty winds will blow along the coast Sunday into Monday afternoon. You should take the usual heat-related precautions until the temperature changes.
One person is dead after a fire in Clearlake. The sheriff’s office says Gene Nelson died in the fire Wednesday evening on 12th Street. Arriving crews say they found the home what they call–fully involved. It took over an hour to bring it under control. The cause is under investigation, as is the cause of Nelson’s death. This is the first fatal fire in Lake COunty this year.
The Clearlake City council, hearing support for city manager Alan Flora as they consider his job performance. Lake County News reports that more at almost 40 people at a special public meeting this week praised Flora–while the only negatives came from people connected with the Highland’s municipal Water District, which has been involved in a lawsuit with the city since last year After the open session, the Council went into a private meeting but later said they would have nothing to report about their closed door session. The dispute with the water district is about capacity and shareholder issues
You may see a lot of helicopter activity around Lake Mendocino this weekend, but it’s no cause for concern. Search and rescue says they’ll be doing some training to get ready in case they ever need to go into action for real.
The City of Ukiah is getting ready for the increased fire risk. The city says the Cal Fire Air attack base at the airport is open for the summer, as a dedicated crew is going to work with the Ukiah Valley Fire Authority to maintain firebreaks and do other mitigation work.
Don’t be fooled by a real-looking text saying the DMV is in the final stages of a crackdown on unpaid tickets. The Lake County Sheriff’s office says it is another variation of a scam making the rounds, and that you can safely delete the message into the spam folder.
