Two people are dead after a head-on crash in Lake County. CHP says the victims–identified as Bernardino Gutierez of Clearlake and Misti Wiggins of Live Oak – died in that collision last Tuesday afternoon on Highway 20, just over the Colusa County line. Officers say Guttierez was driving the wrong way in the eastbound lane when he ran into a Wiggins oncoming car. The investigation continues, but police don’t think impairment was involved.
Get ready for the first heat wave of the season. The National Weather Service says there is a heat advisory in effect for Lake and Mendocino Counties from 11a Fri Friday until 10 pm Saturday. Then highs could be into the low 100s before the heat breaks by Sunday. After that, cooler weather–and maybe some rain by next week. There could also be thunderstorms, raising the wildfire risk as we head into June. As always, Cal Fire says it’s not too early to plan your fire strategy.
Progress on the second phase of Lakeport’s water pipeline replacement project. The city says the work on Lakeshore Boulevard between Lange Street and Beach Lane will replace aging mains to improve reliability. There could be road closures in the work zone between now and the projected end of the project on June 13th. The Public Works Department has more information about the infrastructure
