They say Jorge Estrella of Vallecito in Calaveras County was found shot to death as deputies investigated a 9:11 hang-up call on Mina Road in Covelo earlier this month. The shooting, thought to be connected to a large illegal cannabis operation in the area. Detectives have linked two other shootings in the same area to the case involving Estrella–those men were seriously wounded and had to be airlifted to out-of-county hospitals. The dump days will be Saturday, May 31, and the following Saturday, June 7th, from 8 AM to 1 PM at the Clearlake Oaks Moose Lodge, on Almond Lane by the roundabout at Highways 20 and 53. They’ll take Household trash, general garbage, metal, appliances, mattresses, tires (separated from rims/wheels), furniture, rugs, clothing, household items, electronics, and computer equipment, but they won’t take Hazardous materials, paint, oil, green waste, or construction materials. The County website has info on what to do with that material. Code Enforcement says it’s a great opportunity to organize a neighborhood cleanup or adopt a roadway or a beach for a pre-summer spruce-up Two other dump days in March and April in Nice and Lucerne took in more than 400 tons of trash. Money for the events comes from a CalRecycles grant.
