The county of Lake wants community members to check out the latest on the design of a new park on the Northshore. The John T. Klaus Park, located on donated land east of Clearlake Oaks, will be the focus of a special drop-in meeting. It will be held in the Nylander Building, which is next to the playground at Nylander Park and behind the Red & White grocery store in Clearlake Oaks. It’s on May 22, runs from 3 to 6p.m. Lake County News says the 570-acre park is situated near the roundabout at Highway 20 and Highway 53. To refresh your memory, the Board of Supervisors accepted the donation of the property back in November of 2022, along with funding to develop the park, from the John T. Klaus Trust.

The Lake County Board of Supervisors will honor Lake County Veterans killed in action during next Tuesday’s regular meeting with a Veterans Mission Presentation. The Board will be given a Veterans Appreciation plaque along with an additional plaque listing 30 Lake County Veterans Killed in Action since World War I. The meeting then heads to the front steps of the Courthouse, where the Lake County Military Funeral Honors Team will provide a Department of Defense-authorized Military Funeral Ceremony, including rifle volleys. The ceremony will close out with the playing of Taps. Again, it’s next Tuesday, May 20th beginning at 1p.m.

Governor Gavin Newsom is targeting 767-million dollars in savings by reducing state workers payroll costs. It’s aimed at solving the state’s 12-billion budget deficit for 2025-26. Newsom claims savings will come from negotiations with state employee groups. However, if those negotiations fail, cuts to state workers pay will be on the table. Newsom is also cutting health care funding, pausing Medi-Cal enrollment for illegal immigrants and using just over seven-billion dollars from the state’s savings fund.
