A delay in ballot processing in Lake County last November is prompting supervisors to consider changes at the Registrar of Voters’ office. At this week’s board meeting, the supervisors will talk about what happened in November, when the final tally was slower than expected. Board members say it’s no knock on the workers–it’s just that there weren’t enough of them. The suggestions to fix the problem include hiring more workers, upgrading the infrastructure for faster processing, adding a department owned van to use on election days, and considering a long term plan for the voter’s registrar’s office.. Also on the agenda–an update on legislation in Sacramento that affects the county, and a hearing on new proposed fees for country services that would start in July. The board meeting is on Tuesday at 10 AM at the county offices in Lakeport.

A trail in the Jackson Demonstration State Forest is closing next month so crews can add large pieces of wood to the Noyo River. The Little Lake-Sherwood trail parallels the South Fork of the river at Brandon Gulch, and it will be closed from June 2nd until October 31st. Adding wood to the stream channel will increase spawning habitat for threatened fish, like the Coho Salmon and steelhead and provide pools for the fish to swim in to avoid predators.. Signs about the closure will be put up at the trailheads on Road 300 and Road 1000.

CHP is rolling out its next generation of sleeker, specially marked patrol vehicles to crack down on dangerous driving. Commissioner Sean Duryee says his officers need to keep up with the trend of more aggressive drivers, operating as if the highway were a video game. The new CHP vehicles include 100 tricked-out Dodge Durangos, to go with the existing high-performance fleet of Dodge Chargers and Ford Explorers. Duryee says the goal is to blend in with traffic just enough to spot the most reckless and dangerous behavior without getting spotted first. The new cruisers will be on the road by July. Duryee says CHP wants to send a message that speed isn’t a thrill–it’s a threat.
