CalTrans is hosting a first-ever event to address the needs of tribal communities in the region. It’s a tribal resource fair on May 7th from 4:00 to 7:00 at the Pomo Plaza on the Mendocino College Campus in Ukiah. CalTrans District 1 Small Business Liaison Aaron Morgan says the event will provide answers to questions posed by tribal leaders and provide opportunities for community involvement with the department. He says those attending can get information about CalTrans and State jobs, Small Business startup help, mentorship programs, and other educational opportunities. The Lake County Economic Development Corporation is lending a hand to local entrepreneurs and small businesses who need money to grow. EDC is planning a series of workshops offering guidance from industry professionals about getting commercial loans. A panel of experts will also outline ways these businesses position themselves for financial success. EDC Executive Director Nicole Flora says the sessions will provide real-world information to help community businesses thrive. The first meeting is June 2nd from 5:30 to 7:00 at Umpqua Bank in Lakeport. Another meeting is planned for June 23rd in Clearlake. More people are calling California home. Governor Newsom’s office says the state population went up by around 1 percent last year. It was the second year of growth after several years of decline around the time of the Coronavirus Pandemic. The governor cites more births than deaths and more people over 65. He also says that better data gives a more accurate picture of legal immigration. By the numbers–the population is now over 39.5 million, meaning about 1 in every nine Americans lives here in the Golden State.
