A training session in Lake County has helped more than two dozen people learn how to help OTHERS to quit smoking. Hope Rising Lake County says the 28 participants are now well equipped to work with those on the way to kicking the habit for good. The new trainers come from several different groups in both Mendocino and Lake County. Organizers call the training an important step to give local organizations and individuals the resources to assist smokers who want to break from their tobacco and vaping addictions.
The Ukiah VFW Post 1900 fundraising Breakfasts have been around for years, and they’ll heat the griddle for pancakes again next month. Breakfast will be served on Saturday, May 10th, from 8 a.m. to noon at the Veterans Memorial Hall on Seminary Avenue. The VFW says they can’t do it alone, so they are once again enlisting volunteers from the Redwood Empire Lions Club to help out. The breakfast only costs 10 bucks, and it goes to a good cause. The proceeds go towards Veterans’ assistance and to the many projects the VFW supports, including student scholarships. One huge responsibility of the VFW is maintaining the flags in Ukiah Cemetery. At last count, the Post cares for 468 regulation “casket flags.” Flags currently span WWI through Vietnam. Last year, the local Post needed to add 20 additional poles to accommodate the need.
Speaking of the VFW, Memorial Day is just around the corner, and Post 1900 will team up with American Legion Lewis White Post 78 for the annual ceremony.
