A student at Kelseyville High has been named to a leadership position in the statewide Future Farmers of America. Ryan Taylor will serve as secretary of the group, which has about 103,000 members. He’s decided to put off going to college–Stanford–for a year, as he focuses on the responsibility of his position. . He was picked from 64 applicants–and went through a tough selection process that included multiple interviews, and questions on stage in front of the voting delegates at the recent state FFA convention.
The Konocti Chapter of the Lake County Forest Fire Lookout Association is looking for people to learn how to spot forest fires and staff a new tower. The newly built lookout at High Glade will open this summer. It will protect the Berryesa- Snow Mountain Wilderness Area as well as other areas in the Upper Lake Ranger District. You can contact the Forest Fire Lookout Association, which has changed its name from the Konocti Chapter to the High Glade Chapter.
Gas prices have dipped in California. AAA says the state average this week was $4.80 a gallon, down a nickel from the week before. That’s the highest gas price by state in the US. In Lake County, it stood at 4.78 cents a gallon, roughly the same in Mendocino County, although you can find less expensive gas by shopping around online. If you want the least expensive gas in the US, you’d have to travel south to Mississippi, where the same stuff you put in your tank here costs more than two bucks less – $2.68 a gallon.
