The Lake County Board of Supervisors has selected a new member of the Lakeport Fire Protection District Board. Lake County News reports Terry Cheney will fill the vacancy left when former Board Member Melissa Bedford. Cheney was a volunteer firefighter for 20 years and has worked for three seasons with the California Department of Forestry. Following interviews last month, the board favored applicant Joseph Iaccino, but he later withdrew his name from consideration. Board members say all of the remaining applicants were well qualified but that Cheney was the best fit. The Fire Protection District Board helps oversee the 49-square-mile district with 15 paid staff members and 19 volunteers.
